steampunky dino

This is kinda late :). My partner for the IKEA mirror swap received quite a bit ago. I spent an obscene amount of time on the pain, I also learned a new technique for texturing. It's very simple and only has a few steps to make something wood look distressed and ridgy. And you don't have to buy supplies ( if you have white elmer glue on hand)! Basically:
you sand down the wood (optional) paint it a darker color than what you want the top coat to be,
let it dry, then you mix 10% water with elmers glue, sponge it on in the direction of the grain of the wood, let dry, then you paint it a shade lighter, let dry and then seal/glaze (optional)
The results!:

My partner likes steampunk so I went with the gear theme, I really love the final results, my only tiny thing I dislike was the way the sealer/gloss set kinda gloopy, next time I will be thining it down with water. ( excuse the dirty mirror I took these pictures before I cleaned it up.)

I also made this little dino with some left over polymer clay, this is my first really made object...

His little bow is also made out of purple polymer. I think he came out cute minus his burnt feets. <3

One Tiny Thing...

My partner recieved her tiny thing in the OTT21 swap on craftster.org. She wanted something functional, as did I... So I sent her a gnome home pin cushion!

Back: I love the tiny clothes line :)

The mushroom is crocheted freehand, and the little details on it are; felt, DMC floss, and a bit of tan yarn for the clothes line. I am thrilled with how it came out and I am equally happy that she liked it :)

This is what I got in return:

isn't it the sweetest thing ever? This will work perfectly when I take my embroidery on the go.
My comments finally work again...geeze!

un-eventful weekend...kind of

My weekend was lax, I didn't do anything despite I have been wanting to go to the new museum... I did however get a few craft projects finished that have been bugging me. I scrapped a pin cushion because it didn't come out perfect so I picked it to death, literally it is in scraps, ( after all the work I put into the outside I wanted to cry I was so frustrated with it) so I started a new one, which came out wayyy better than I thought it would. I sent out 2 of my four swap items last week so I am no longer stressed out about them. I only have one more to do and I am finished. Every time I say "I am going to take a swap hiatus until I find another job!" the boy tells me to "go ahead" so long as I keep it in budget. $30 dollars of play money a week (for myself) doesn't sound like much, but when I save it for a couple of weeks I go on a spree :D I have been getting better about my little "sprees" and have only gotten what I need as of late. I always feel guilty when I impulsively buy things I don't need (i.e. nifty knitters, random clearance items...) in my head I always think things will be useful like the nifty knitters I was all like "coool now I can knit much much easier and make all sorts of keen stuff!"...I have used them once... Ohh and what about those baby photo albums, I don't even have kids yet, but I will someday right? Craft stores, are bad, bad, bad places for me to innocently "browse" so are Targets, but we won't even go there today.

I did very little around the house, except I did do the dirtiest, nastiest, task ever. Back story:

Around 3 p.m. Sunday I had Gabe (the boy) start the grill so I could cook a chicken for dinner over indirect heat, I walk away to go grab my book from our bedroom to read while I'm waiting for the grill to get up to temperature. Guess what happens next? It caught on fire, seriously, the friggin' grill caught on fire! So I put the lid back down hoping the lack of oxygen will kill it...Nope, all I got was black smoke. In the midst of Gabe freaking out, running around in circles, flailing his arms, and acting like it is a California forest fire. I very calmly turn the burners off and suavely take the gas tank off the grill and roll the thing off the screened-in porch. By then the fire was starting to die down, but still pretty bad...Gabe has this brilliant idea and runs out ( after I told him NO water) and throws a WHOLE bag of flour all over the inside of the grill and it goes everywhere but it still does not put the fire out, in fact it didn't even help it just turns the flour to burnt, that is the only way I can describe it.... Eventually I just put the lid back down and let it die out... Now to the dirty part, we had to take the grill apart and scrape flour remains. An hour later I am covered in grease, burnt flour and god knows what else... pics to be posted shortly...

Pay it Forward Giveaway.

I won a loverly pin over at DZ Fantasy, you should check out her amazing creations, and giveaways! I will definitely be posting about it when I get it in the mail... I got this brilliant idea from Jody of http://tumbleweedtrails.blogspot.com/ SO to thank the humble blog giveaway(handout) Gods I have decided to do the same..

Here's how it works. The first three bloggers to leave a comment on this post will get a handmade gift from me, yours truly, some time this year! It could be anything, and at any time. That's part of the fun, it's just a little something in the mail from me to you, out of the blue.

and...

Here is how you pay it forward: You, the lucky first three to comment, then post this on your blog so that three people can leave you a comment and in return you send them a handmade gift! Include a link back to me in the post. The gift needs to be handmade by you! The gift can be any price you want and has to be sent out some time this year! You might want to send it out earlier before you forget it completely, and because your recipient is probably anxiously awaiting it‘s arrival. Remember it is the thought that counts! When you receive your gift make sure you blog about it. Play nice. Who wants to pay it forward? Who will be the first three lucky bloggers to leave a comment and receive fabulous handmade gift from me? Have fun!

Can you imagine how many circles this could go in :D? Anyway, Happy posting!

Edit to add: Since peoples tastes very from my own, in the post please include three themes of things you like. ( so I can get an idea of what you would like to get!)
-example of what mine would look like:
1.Owls
2.Pink
3.Polkadots

let them eat cake!

I made more baked goodies! This is the second homemade-not-out-of-a-box cake I have made. I don't know what is up with me but I have been utterly domesticated-wifey like lately.

With out further ado I bring you german chocolate cake.... Mmm just looking at it adds calories.

Sorry for the bite mark, I couldn't control myself :0 hehe...

How does a pig go to the hospital?

In a hambulance...I love corny jokes.

here comes the rain again...

Much to my dismay, it has been raining strait for 3 days!... After two days of blissful weather it just has to get freezing and rainy again... Which gives me an excuse to indulge in some comfort food. This is my first attempt at making homemade biscuts, I used a basic "old-fashioned" recipe and tweaked it a bit, since I don't have a round cookie cutter I used a heart in stead....and the results...

What a better way to spend a dreary afternoon with a hot cup of coffee and a homemade biscut covered in honey butter...

swap madnesssss and DST

Let me first tell you about daylight savings time...Ever since Saturday 11 p.m. I have been discombobulated because it was suddenly Sunday morning, since then I have been looking at the clock much like a zombie looks at a brain asking myself "Is this thing right?!" Even though I am sure I have switched every clock in the house...Paranoia. Eventually I'll adjust, but for now I will keep my eye on those tricky clocks.

Swap madness has reached it's peak! I am currently involved in 4 swaps on my favorite site of all time (craftster.org) and I have been crazy crafting since, so lots of projects will be posted soon enough.

Swap 1: IKEA Malma Mirror-Done! ( finally!)
Swap 2: One Tiny Thing- Done!
Swap 3: Friendshipghan Rd 11- 4/10 squares
Swap 4: Pin Cushion Swap- 50% done

Swap one was a bit difficult because I kept changing my mind and went through a couple mirrors before true inspiration struck (when I actually found my original idea's item that I was dotting over and the reason it wouldn't work out) and I totally love the finished project. The second swap was easy-peasy since I already had a general idea of what I was going to do and once I got my partners info I finished pretty quickly, it turned out so cute I want to keep it for myself! Swap number 3 is coming along swimmingly, I work on the squares while watching old re-runs of The Lucy Show... and the fourth needs complete silence and concentration so it is definitely a morning craft even though I want to work on it so badly, I have put so much time into it I don't want to risk screwing it up. I can't wait to post my goodies!

Elephant love.

I adore elephants, so I embroidered/sewed myself up this little cutie a while ago ( Helloooo procrasination!) I have been lugging it around as a clutch, so far it has been holding up awesomely.

The elephant was hand drawn on the front with a washable crayola marker then I used the split stitch for an outline and used the fill stitch for her eye and bow. I am not really happy with the bow it came out a little wonky...

This little sucker may look tiny but it holds a ton of stuff, and the little bow is sweet. I am so in love with this idea I will be making more.

I am such a blog procrasinator it isn't even funny, I have a ton of projects to post and they are loaded on photobucket. However, I am too lazy to post :\ One day I will get on the bandwagon and be a crazy blogging fool. Untill then...
